U.S. President Donald Trump will join FIFA president Gianni Infantino on the podium at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, with both men set to jointly present the trophy to the winning team.
Infantino confirmed the plan during an appearance on Fox & Friends, saying he and Trump would watch the final together at MetLife Stadium on July 19 before taking part in the trophy ceremony.
“We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together,” Infantino said. “We are together all the time.”
The FIFA chief credited Trump with playing a key role in bringing the expanded tournament to the United States, saying cooperation between football’s governing body and the U.S. administration had been vital throughout the hosting process.
The joint presentation comes after Trump’s high-profile appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup final last year, where he handed the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James following the club’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain. His extended stay on the podium drew widespread attention, with players visibly surprised as he lingered during the celebrations.
While the FIFA president has traditionally handled trophy presentations at the World Cup, heads of state have taken part in the ceremony on several occasions throughout the tournament’s history.
