Nollywood actress Biola Bayo has revealed her reason for publicly announcing her separation from her husband, Oluseyi.
Recall that she recently stunned Nigerians when she revealed the end of their four-year marriage in a heartfelt message shared on her husband’s birthday.
The announcement sparked lots of reactions on social media, with many blasting her for setting him up for criticism on his special day.
Reacting via a viral clip on social media, Biola Bayo revealed that she did what she did to control her own narrative.
According to her, she decided to let Nigerians know that she was no longer married because she doesn’t want anyone else to share her story on her behalf, and to also prevent rumour mongers from taking advantage of the situation.
The movie star disclosed that her decision still backfired because no matter how good her intention is, people still end up using it against her.
“Please, I’m a human too. The other one I said about my marriage was because I don’t want people to say my story for me, that was why I came out to say it. And that’s my style. So that people would not be saying something different or saying things that would make me sad. But I didn’t know that you people would still use it against me,” she said.
Biola further noted that she actually informed her husband before announcing their separation online, and he was fully aware that she was going to make the announcement.
The filmmaker concluded by saying that the post was necessary after Nigerians started noticing that she rarely posted about Oluseyi online.
“People have already asking me that you are not posting your husband, and I knew different rumors would come out online that very day, that is why I spoke about our separation but yet it was used against me.
I have already told my husband before I posted. So he was aware that I would post it so that other people won’t be the one to tell the story on social media. But I know that God will reward everybody accordingly,” she added.
