Award-winning Nigerian artist David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has shared the uplifting message his wife, Chioma Rowland Adeleke, gave him following his second unsuccessful bid at the Grammy Awards.
The singer’s collaboration with Omah Lay, With You, was nominated for Best African Music Performance but lost to South African artist Tyla’s Push 2 Start.
The competitive category showcased significant Nigerian talent, with nominations including Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, and Gimme Dat by Ayra Starr and Wizkid. Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s Hope & Love also received a nomination. Despite the strong showing from Nigerian artists, the award went elsewhere.
In an Instagram post, Davido revealed that he initially suggested skipping the after-party following the disappointment. His wife, however, had a different perspective.
Alongside photos from the event, he wrote: “I said baby listen, we lost again, let’s not go! She said, ‘Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. We’re outside.'”
