Nigeria concluded their Group C campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding victory over Uganda in Fez, maintaining their perfect record and advancing to the knockout rounds as one of the tournament’s most impressive sides.
The Super Eagles dominated from start to finish, securing three consecutive wins that have positioned them as genuine contenders in Morocco. Meanwhile, Uganda’s tournament ended in disappointment, collecting just a single point across their three matches.
Nigeria Take Control Early
The Super Eagles immediately seized the initiative, pressing high and moving the ball with purpose. Their attacking intent kept Uganda’s defense under constant pressure throughout the opening half.
Nigeria’s dominance was rewarded in the 28th minute when Paul Onuachu pounced on a clever pass from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to give his side the lead. The goal reflected Nigeria’s superiority and sent them clear at the top of the group standings.
Goalkeeper’s Dismissal Shifts Momentum
The match took a decisive turn just before the hour mark when Uganda goalkeeper Salim Magoola was sent off for handling outside his area while attempting to deny Victor Osimhen a clear scoring opportunity.
Nigeria capitalized quickly on their numerical advantage. Four minutes after the red card, Samuel Chukwueze threaded a pass through to Frank Onyeka Onyedika, who slotted home calmly to double the lead.
Onyedika’s Brace Seals Victory
The midfielder added his second goal just three minutes later, finishing off a rapid counterattack that began with Onuachu and was orchestrated once more by Chukwueze. Onyedika’s composed finish in the 67th minute put the result beyond doubt and capped an outstanding individual performance.
The victory confirmed Nigeria’s dominance of Group C, with three wins from three matches and nine points collected without conceding defeat.
Uganda Find Late Reply
Despite being reduced to ten players, Uganda managed a late response through substitute Steven Mato, who chipped the ball over Francis Uzoho following good work from Allan Okello.
The goal provided brief satisfaction but came far too late to affect the outcome. Uganda finished bottom of the group and exited the tournament having collected just one point.
Nigeria now advance to the knockout phase riding a wave of confidence, with their form suggesting they could mount a serious challenge for the continental title.
