Two people have been confirmed dead and three others injured following an explosion at a filling station in Daffo community, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Friday, April 17, 2026.
The incident reportedly occurred at Natty Filling Station during maintenance work on an underground fuel tank.
Eyewitness accounts, including that of the Chairman of the Community Peace Observers, Kefas Mallai, indicated that the explosion happened while workers were welding a leaking section of the tank.
Mallai explained that the victims believed the tank was empty at the time of the repair.
According to him, a welder and his apprentice were engaged to fix the faulty tank when the blast suddenly occurred, triggering a fire outbreak that killed both men instantly.
“Today, Friday 17th April, 2026, two persons died, and three others were injured at Daffo Town of Bokkos LGA, Plateau State, as an underground tank of Natty Filling Station exploded during welding maintenance,” he said.
He added that three other individuals who were nearby at the time sustained varying degrees of injuries and were quickly rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
Residents and sympathisers later gathered at the scene shortly after the explosion.
Authorities had yet to release an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report, while the identities of the victims remain unconfirmed.
