The White House has blasted the Norwegian Nobel Committee after it awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. Despite reports saying U.S. President Donald Trump was set to clinch the plaque, it eventually went to Maria.
In a press statement shared on X, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung accused the Nobel committee of prioritising “politics over peace” with its decision.
According to him, despite missing out on the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump will keep doing his best to end wars and save innocent lives.
Emphasising that the US President has a humanitarian spirit, Cheung stated that Trump’s will to ensure there is peace across the globe will never be broken.
“President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives.
He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will.
The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace,” he wrote.
Donald Trump has consistently argued that his government’s diplomatic efforts deserve a Nobel Peace Prize.
He reiterated those claims earlier this week, citing his role in brokering what he called the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire, which he said marked the 8th conflict he has helped to end.
Reacting to María Corina Machado’s honour, Trump wrote on Thursday, “Whatever they do is fine. I didn’t do it for that. I did it because I’ve saved a lot of lives.”
