Hip-hop icon Trevor Smith Jr, professionally known as Busta Rhymes, has expressed interest in making Nigeria his home after retiring from music.
The 53-year-old artist shared his plans during a performance at Lagos’s Detty December Fest over the weekend, telling the audience he’s considering purchasing property in the country and starting a family there.
“I’m looking for a home here, I’m looking for property. I’m thinking about looking for a wife so that when I stop working, I can settle down here,” the rapper told the crowd.
Busta Rhymes described his visit to Nigeria as “special,” noting it had taken him 15 years to make the trip. The Brooklyn-born rapper, who has never been married but is father to six children with four different women, appears drawn to establishing roots in West Africa as he contemplates life beyond his music career.
The announcement came during what has become an annual tradition of international artists performing in Nigeria during the December holiday season, commonly referred to as “Detty December.”
