The Christian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of gospel actor Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, widely recognised for his role as Flora’s husband in the popular Mount Zion film series, Abattoir.
Oyeyemi’s passing was announced on Tuesday by the Bowen University Alumni Association through a statement shared on its Instagram page. Although the association did not reveal the cause of his death, it described him as a devoted drama minister and valued alumnus whose life and ministry touched many people.
In its tribute, the association stated:
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing and burial of one of our esteemed alumni, Mr. Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, Gomobzzzz, a proud member of the Viable Set and BBSF Drama Unit, who recently went to be with the Lord.”
The association appealed to alumni and well-wishers to remember the late actor’s family in prayers, asking God to grant them strength, comfort and peace during the difficult period.
It also encouraged alumni living in Ibadan and surrounding communities to attend his burial in honour of their departed colleague and friend.
According to the burial arrangements released alongside the announcement, a Service of Songs will be held in Ibadan on Thursday, July 2, while his interment is scheduled for Friday, July 3, at the Garden of Saints Cemetery. Mourners have been requested to attend the ceremonies dressed in white.
Beyond his memorable performance in Abattoir, Oyeyemi featured in several productions by Mount Zion Faith Ministries, including Fiwajomi, Seyifunmi, Olukoya and Finding Grace. He was widely admired for portraying faith-based characters and using drama as a platform for Christian evangelism.
His death has once again drawn attention to the growing number of losses suffered by the Abattoir cast in recent years.
In February 2025, actress Toluwalope Adegboyega-Alagbe, who played Flora—Oyeyemi’s on-screen wife in the series—died from complications resulting from injuries she sustained in a road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 26, 2024. The tragic crash also claimed the life of one of her two-year-old twin daughters.
Her passing attracted tributes from members of the Christian film community, including Mount Zion founder Evangelist Mike Bamiloye and filmmaker Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, who described her death as a painful loss to the gospel film ministry.
Oyeyemi’s demise also follows the death of another Abattoir actor, Moses Korede Are, popularly known as Baba Gbenro, who passed away in 2024.
With Oyeyemi’s death, three actors associated with the widely acclaimed gospel series have died within the last two years, leaving colleagues, fans and the Christian entertainment industry mourning another significant loss.
