US Lobbying Firm Alleges Tinubu Spent Millions Fighting Release of Drug-Related Records

A United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu spent millions of dollars in efforts to prevent the release of records linked to historical drug trafficking investigations.

The firm made the allegation in a post on X on Tuesday, August 25, amid an ongoing legal dispute over records held by US law enforcement agencies.

According to the lobbying firm, Tinubu’s legal team petitioned the court and engaged with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) over the release of the documents.

The firm argued that these actions contradicted any suggestion that the Nigerian president was not seeking to prevent the records from being made public.

“Despite claiming innocence, Tinubu has spent millions of dollars to ensure that his drug trafficking records are never released,” the firm alleged.

It further argued that although the underlying matter had been described as a civil case, the involvement of US law enforcement agencies indicated that the records dispute involved sensitive investigative materials.

The allegations come as a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case continues over records reportedly held by the US Department of Justice, FBI and DEA concerning historical investigations involving Tinubu.

However, the claims by the lobbying firm are allegations and do not, by themselves, establish that Tinubu committed any offence or that the records in question contain evidence of drug trafficking.

The dispute over access to the records remains subject to the ongoing legal process in the United States.
