Nollywood actor, filmmaker and playwright Femi Branch has received his second honorary doctorate degree, following his recognition by ESTAM University in the Republic of Benin.
The actor announced the latest achievement on Friday, October 30, 2026, through his Instagram page, where he disclosed that he had been conferred with the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (D.H.L. Hons).
Expressing gratitude over the recognition, Branch thanked God and the governing board of ESTAM University for honouring him. He also acknowledged the support of his family and appreciated his brother, Yomi Olorunlaiye, for capturing the memorable moment.
In his Instagram post, the actor described the award as another feather added to his cap, expressing appreciation for the honour and giving glory to God.
The latest recognition marks the second honorary doctorate degree awarded to the actor within two years.
In November 2024, Branch received his first honorary doctorate degree, a Doctor of Philosophy in Arts, from Heim Weldios University in Porto Novo, Republic of Benin.
Branch has established himself as a familiar face in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with experience spanning acting, filmmaking, playwriting and poetry. Over the years, he has featured in several Nollywood productions and earned recognition for his contributions to the creative industry.
ESTAM University, located in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, has also recognised other Nigerian entertainers with honorary degrees. Among those previously honoured by the institution are Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji and comedian Destalker.
Meanwhile, the National Universities Commission (NUC) issued guidelines in February 2026 to clarify the status of honorary doctorate degrees in Nigeria.
According to the guidelines, honorary doctorate degrees are special distinctions awarded in recognition of individuals’ contributions to society and should not be regarded as equivalent to earned academic doctorate qualifications.
Branch’s latest honour adds to his list of recognitions and marks another milestone in his career in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
