Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Naija News reports that the governor announced his defection on Saturday at the Bauchi Government House after a closed-door meeting with key political stakeholders in the state. The gathering was attended by the National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement, Yusuf Dantalle, who was present when Mohammed made his switch public.
Before his exit, Bala Mohammed served as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, a role that positioned him as a leading voice among governors of the opposition party nationwide.
His move to the APM was also accompanied by a group of his supporters, including members aligned with the Tanimu Turaki-led faction within the PDP structure in Bauchi State.
Although the details of the earlier closed-door meeting were not disclosed, it was gathered that it involved prominent political figures in the state.
In a related development, Mohammed also declared that he would not be contesting for the presidency, explaining that the PDP had zoned the position to the South.
He stated that he would instead seek election into the Senate to represent Bauchi South.
“I am not contesting for the presidency. At the party level, we agreed to zone it to the South out of fairness,” he said. “However, based on calls from my people, I will contest the Bauchi South senatorial seat to continue representing them and support our candidates.”
