The media office of Otunba Senator Gbenga Daniel has broken its silence over a doctored audio presented as leqked recording circulating widely across political circles in Ogun State, insisting the former governor will not be drawn into authenticating or discussing the content.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the office of the Ogun East lawmaker maintained that dignifying fictitious material with a rebuttal lays dangerous precedent for political engagement in the state, one that could expose any public figure to similar manipulation regardless of party affiliation.
The doctored recording, which has generated intense reactions among supporters of rival camps ahead of the 2027 governorship contest, allegedly captures a private exchange involving the former governor. Daniel’s office, however, insisted its position was one of principle rather than evasion, noting that the senator’s public record on the unfolding contest has remained consistent and open.
Otunba Senator Daniel has repeatedly called for unity and fair play among all contestants jostling for the Ogun State governorship, a position he reiterated as recently as last week at a public event attended by leaders across party lines in the state. His office argued that this record could not be overshadowed by a doctored audio whose origin, completeness, and context remain unverified by anyone beyond those who chose to release it.
The statement further raised questions over the timing and method of the recording’s release, noting that whoever was responsible had opted for covert distribution rather than open political engagement, a choice the office described as worthy of scrutiny in its own right. Daniel’s legal team, according to the statement, has since been briefed on the matter, with the office reserving the right to pursue available remedies against those found responsible for the doctored recording and its circulation.
The former governor, the statement added, remains focused on the task of steering a peaceful and united path toward the 2027 governorship contest, both for his party and for Ogun State at large, and would not be distracted by what it termed a manufactured controversy.
Reactions have continued to trail the development, with political watchers in the state divided over the implications of the leak for the ruling party’s fortunes ahead of next year’s poll.
