Nigerian music star Davido (David Adeleke) has found himself at the centre of controversy after mistakenly directing social media criticism at gospel singer Tosin Bee during an emotional response to his ongoing custody dispute with Sophia Momodu.
The incident unfolded following a tense hearing at Lagos State High Court in Yaba on Thursday, where custody arrangements for the singer’s daughter, Imade Adeleke, were being discussed. Court proceedings reportedly became heated when a lawyer representing Sophia made reference to Davido’s late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
Taking to Instagram afterwards, an visibly upset Davido criticised the lawyer, Ebelechukwu Enedah, accusing her of crossing professional boundaries by mentioning his deceased child. He described the courtroom exchange in stark terms and claimed to have confronted her behaviour during proceedings.
However, the situation took an unfortunate turn when Davido reposted content from Tosin Bee’s Instagram page, apparently mistaking the gospel artist for someone connected to the legal team. His comments sparked a wave of misdirected criticism from fans toward Tosin Bee’s social media accounts.
Tosin Bee quickly responded to clarify the misunderstanding, stating he had no involvement in the legal matter whatsoever. “Hello Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made. As a matter of fact, my mum went to be with the Lord eight years ago. I guess this is a case of mistaken identity. So sorry you had to deal with this, but my prayers are with you. I love you brother,” he wrote in a gracious response.
The misunderstanding has added another layer to the already closely watched custody battle, which continues to dominate conversations across Nigerian social media.
