Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Makinde Vincent, who has been detained in Asokoro Police Station, Abuja, since November 11.
Falana, who made the demand on Monday, said that Vincent is a serving police officer at the FED OPS Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The fiery Senior Advocate of Nigeria said Vincent has been leg-chained at Asokoro Police Station since November for an undisclosed offence.
He said, “He has been detained at Asokoro Police Station since the 11th of November 2024 for an undisclosed offence. His legs have since been chained in the custody of the Police.
“A fellow police officer who took pity on the detainee has just sent his picture to me.
“I call on the Police Authorities to release ASP Makinde Vincent and investigate his dehumanisation in the police custody.”
Efforts to get the reactions and comments of the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on the matter failed as he did not answer calls made to his mobile phone number.
