Ex-Real Madrid striker, Fernando Morientes has revealed that he does not support his former club signing Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes.
Reports have said the Spanish giant are more than ready to make a big offer for the Portuguese international in the summer while his MUFC career remains up in their air amid their struggling form.
Speaking during an interview with bet365, Fernando said that he cannot back the idea of splashing £90million on the midfielder, especially because the club’s clear priority should be defensive additions once the transfer window opens.
He said, “Bruno Fernandes to Real Madrid? No, I’m not sure, and I don’t see it as viable. He’s an interesting profile, but I don’t think Real Madrid are interested right now. He’s not Real Madrid’s priority.”
According to Morientes, he believes Real Madrid would be looking at reinforcing the team with quality defenders instead, and even if some of their current midfielders are nearing the end of their careers, the focus should still be at the back. “I think they’re thinking a lot more about other positions, and although in that position there are some players who might be finishing their careers, I get the feeling they’re looking for more defenders,” he added.
Fernando might be on to something as Real Madrid’s most recent 1-0 victory vs Alaves finally put an end to the club’s run of nine games without a clean sheet. And their porous defence is the obvious reason they might be set to lose the battle to win the La Liga and UCL trophies in consecutive seasons.
Meanwhile, Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim has already shut down any chance of Bruno Fernandes leaving the club by revealing he already told the midfielder he would be going nowhere because he is needed at Old Trafford. His words, “He’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him. It’s not happening. We’ve had low points this season but I want Bruno here as we want to win the league again.”
However, while Amorim continues to insist that Bruno will be staying put beyond this season, speculations around the midfielder’s future will only intensify if MUFC are kicked out of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
