Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has accused Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, of taking credit for groundwork he claims to have laid for the state’s airport project.
Daniel made the remarks during an appearance on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines with Nifemi, where he reacted to the ongoing development of the airport in Ogun State.
The former governor stated that the project did not start under the current administration, insisting that key stages such as planning, environmental assessments, design, stakeholder engagements, land acquisition, and securing of licences were already completed during his tenure.
According to him, the most challenging aspects of the project had been concluded before the current government assumed office.
He said the present administration only handled the execution phase, which he described as the “easiest part” of the project.
Daniel further alleged that Governor Abiodun was benefiting politically and financially from the foundation laid by his administration, stressing that the real groundwork involved extensive negotiations and approvals, including engagements at the presidential level to secure necessary licences.
He also criticised the governor’s handling of the project narrative, accusing him of presenting the airport as a fresh achievement of his administration.
The remarks add to ongoing political tension between both politicians over credit for major infrastructure projects in Ogun State.
