Grief has swept across Nigeria’s gospel music community following the passing of Amos Taiwo Adegbodu, one half of the iconic Adegbodu Twins, a duo that spent decades ministering through Yoruba gospel music.
The news broke on Sunday via the duo’s official Facebook page in a post believed to have been written by Taiwo’s surviving twin brother and musical partner, Samuel Kehinde Adegbodu. The tribute was raw and deeply personal, with Kehinde struggling to find words adequate enough to capture his anguish.
“TAIWO, why will you leave me and your kids without notification? My heart is bleeding, lord how do you want me to cope without him? God why? This is too much for me to bear!!!” he wrote, in words that moved thousands of fans and fellow ministers across social media.
Since the announcement, tributes have poured in from admirers who remember Taiwo as a fervent evangelist whose music carried spiritual weight and brought comfort to countless homes. Fellow gospel ministers have also joined in mourning, reflecting on the impact his voice and ministry had on the faith of many.
The cause of his death has not yet been made public.
The Adegbodu Twins first came together in 1974 and went on to become towering figures in the Yoruba gospel music scene, widely celebrated for their rich harmonies and their steadfast dedication to spreading the Christian faith through song. Their music remained a staple in many Nigerian Christian households across generations.
Taiwo’s death marks the end of a partnership that defined an era, and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to resonate long after his passing.
