Gospel singer Busola Oke has broken her silence on a painful season in her life, sharing that her mental health declined so sharply she turned to antidepressants just to get through the day.
The singer, known for the hit Eleyele, opened up during a candid interview with actress Biola Adebayo, following a raw and emotional TikTok live session that left fans worried about her wellbeing.
“I was so depressed that I started taking antidepressants,” she said. “When I took them, I would sleep for two days and disconnect from everyone. I began to feel like it was the end.”
Oke explained that what drove her to go live on TikTok was something painfully simple — hunger. Behind the polished image she had maintained for years was a woman quietly falling apart. “I have been putting up a charade. I have been pretending to be fine. I am not fine,” she admitted, saying she just needed her fans to remind her she was not alone.
Financially, the cracks run deep. Last September, she was unable to pay her ₦1 million rent because she could barely afford food. A junior colleague offered her ₦500,000 to help, but with the amount falling short of the full rent, she used it instead for basic survival.
Despite releasing multiple albums — Adura, Songs of Praise, and Ogo Titun — Oke says she has never had the resources to properly promote her music, leaving her talent largely unrewarded.
Now, she says she is done just surviving. “I need help. I want my life back,” she said, voicing a longing not just for financial relief, but for a life with dignity, stability, and a place she can truly call home.
