President Bola Tinubu has ordered the security chief to arrest perpetrators of last Friday’s massacre in Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
He recently gave the directive to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, during a town hall meeting with political leaders in Benue State.
“Christopher… We need to get our ears to the ground. Let’s get those criminals. Let’s get them out,” he said.
According to him, it is obvious that Hyacinth Alia’s political enemies do not want him to succeed in Benue State, and he’ll be disappointed if the Governor is only just realizing that.
He then called on leaders across the region to unite and put a stop to the senseless killings of innocent Nigerians.
The President further noted that a leadership committee should be created in Abuja to formulate a plan that will guarantee lasting peace across the region.
Declaring that he is prepared to do everything to guarantee peace in Benue, he emphasised that nothing will be possible without a united effort.
“Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed…Are you just realising that?
We cannot do without another. I will want us to create a leadership committee now to meet in Abuja to fashion out a strategy for lasting peace. And I am ready to invest in that peace,” he added.
Tinubu visited Benue residents who are recovering from last Friday’s attack by armed herders at the State University Teaching Hospital.
He was welcomed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the host Governor, Hyacinth Alia.
