Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has named Engineer Leye Falade as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition for the liquefied natural gas company.
The appointment received formal approval from NLNG’s Board of Directors during a meeting held on Thursday, according to industry sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Falade brings strong academic credentials to his new role. He earned his degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and later obtained an MBA from Henley Business School at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.
International LNG Experience
The new chief executive’s career includes substantial international exposure in the liquefied natural gas sector. Most recently, Falade served as Managing Director of Brunei LNG, demonstrating his expertise in managing LNG operations in Southeast Asia.
He also held the dual position of Country Chair and Chief Executive at Shell Namibia, where he led operations until October 2023. This role provided him with extensive experience in managing complex energy operations in an African market context.
Previous Role at NLNG
Before his international assignments, Falade worked directly within Nigeria LNG Limited, serving as General Manager of Production. This position gave him intimate knowledge of NLNG’s operations, facilities, and organisational structure, experience that will prove valuable as he assumes the top leadership position.
His previous tenure at NLNG means he returns to the company with established relationships and a deep understanding of its operational challenges and opportunities.
NLNG operates as an incorporated joint venture with four major shareholders. The ownership structure includes the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, along with three international partners: Shell Gas B.V., Total Gaz Electricite Holdings France, and Eni International N.A. N.V. S.
The company plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s energy sector, processing natural gas into liquefied form for export to international markets.
Falade’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Nigeria’s natural gas industry as the country seeks to maximize the economic potential of its substantial gas reserves while meeting growing global demand for cleaner energy sources.
