Athletic Club forward, Nico Williams believes it is every kid’s dream to play at Old Trafford. He recently had his say as his team prepare to face Manchester United in the Europa League semi-finals.
Speaking to reporters during his latest interview, Nico revealed that he and his teammates must do their very best in the first leg at San Mames because the football world must know what Athletic Bilbao is all about after the match.
“Every kid wants to play at Old Trafford. We’ll try to put our best foot forward in the first leg at San Mames to go there with determination and show what Athletic Bilbao is all about,” he said.
According to him, there will be no favourite to win the tie, and even if Manchester United is not doing so well in the English Premier League this season, they proved what they are capable of with their stunning comeback vs Lyon.
His words, “This tie will have no favourite. Manchester United is at the bottom of the league, but they made it clear against Olympique Lyonnais what they’re capable with the way they handled the match.”
Nico confirmed that he wants Athletic Club to reach the UEL final since it has been the main objective of the club since the season started, especially because the final will be taking place in their home stadium.
“Hopefully we’ll reach the final, which is something the team is deserving of, and we’re happy. It’s the only objective we have, and it’s something we’ve always thought about. We want to do much more than just reach the final,” he added.
The Euro 2024 winner is one of the most in-demand wingers in Europe and has also been linked with a move to a number of top clubs in recent times, including Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea. This season, the youngster has contributed five goals and two assists in the Europa League alone, despite delivering underwhelming performances in the La Liga thus far.
While Nico Williams currently has a contract to remain an Athletic Club player until 2027, he has also been tipped to replace the outgoing Marcus Rashford at Manchester United in the summer. Reports have even said that United are ready to do everything possible to beat Arsenal and Chelsea to his signature.
