A United States lawmaker, Kimberly Daniels, has alleged that some elements within Nigeria’s security system may be complicit in attacks on Christian communities in parts of the country.
Daniels, a member of the Florida House of Representatives and chair of the United World Congress of Diplomats, made the claims in a report released on April 14, 2026. The report highlights recent violence in Nigeria’s North-Central and North-West regions, including incidents during Palm Sunday and Easter services in Plateau, Kaduna, and Nasarawa states.
She described the attacks as part of a sustained pattern targeting religious gatherings, noting that government condemnations have not translated into sufficient protection for affected communities.
According to the report, there is a gap between official assurances and the reality on the ground, as insecurity persists despite repeated promises from authorities.
Daniels also referenced past allegations involving former Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, raising concerns about claims of links with armed groups. She warned that failure to address such accusations could erode public confidence in security institutions.
The report included testimonies from survivors and residents who expressed frustration over recurring attacks and what they described as inadequate protection, with some saying they continue to bury victims despite statements from the federal government.
Daniels called on Nigerian authorities to urgently reform the country’s security architecture, warning that inaction could embolden perpetrators and worsen the humanitarian crisis.
Nigeria continues to face widespread security challenges, including banditry, insurgency, and communal clashes, with growing international concern over attacks on rural and religious communities.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the Nigerian government.
