The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, has announced the extension of tax office operations to weekends for the month of June.
He recently shared that the extension would cater to the yearly Companies Income Tax filing season.
Speaking via a press statement, the Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS chairman, Dare Adekanmbi, said that the move is part of Zacch’s way of proving that the agency’s customer-centric policy is not just a verbal promise.
After the order, tax offices are set to open for business from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday throughout this month.
According to Dare, the weekend service, which begins on June 14, will end on Sunday, June 29, and the goal is to ensure companies that are mandated by law to file their tax returns by the end of the month are able to meet the deadline.
He stated that the Coordinating Directors of the Large Taxpayers Group, the Government and Medium Taxpayers Group and the Emerging Taxpayers Group, Ms Amina Ado, Dr Dick Irri and Mr Kabir Abba, respectively, have notified all staff in their tax offices about the management’s decision.
“As you are aware, the month of June marks the peak of the annual Companies Income Tax filing season, with many taxpayers whose financial year ends 31st December expected to file their tax returns by June 30.
To ease the process for taxpayers, enhance service delivery, and maximise tax collection during this critical period, management has approved extension of tax office operations to weekends for the month of June 2025,” a directive jointly signed by the three Coordinating Directors read.
