The Track World Athletics Talent Hunt (TWATH) Foundation successfully hosted the second edition of 10-kilometer Road race on Saturday, December 28, in Aiyetoro, Yewa North Ogun State marking another milestone in their mission to discover and nurture athletic talent in the region, in a remarkable display of athletic prowess and organizational excellence.
The event drew an impressive registration of 92 athletes and saw 78 participants at the starting line, with 47 demonstrating exceptional endurance to complete the challenging course. Most notably, eight of the top ten finishers were products of the TWATH training camp, highlighting the foundation’s effectiveness in developing athletic talent.
“This event has exceeded our expectations in every way,” said Coach Ibrahim Yekini, Technical Director of TWATH Foundation. “Watching these young athletes push their boundaries and showcase their potential was truly inspiring. What particularly thrilled me was seeing our TWATH camp athletes dominate the top positions, proving that our training programs and mentorship approach are yielding remarkable results.”
In the men’s category, Adeleke Elijah claimed the top spot, followed by Akorede Peter and Sunday Emmanuel completing the podium positions. Salako Solomon and Alao Lekan secured fourth and fifth positions, respectively. The women’s category saw an equally impressive performance, with Arogundade Blessing taking first place, while Bankole Bolu and Adewusi Asisat claimed second and third positions. Edun Motunrayo and Elegbede Christiana rounded out the top five.
“The success of this event wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated TWATH BOT, executive members, organizing committees, and coaching staff,” TWATH Foundation BOT Chairwoman Hajia Fatimoh Muhammed acknowledged. “I must also express our profound gratitude to our sponsors, Wamufat Agro-Allied Ltd., also known as Wamufat Farms, Agic Energy West Africa Ltd., Yali-Yali Sportswear, Toro Green City, Kaolas Royal Nig Ltd., Alajobi Community Development Foundation, and GO Architects Inc., whose support has been instrumental in creating opportunities for these aspiring athletes.”
The foundation ensured all participating athletes received certificates and medals, with special cash awards presented to the top ten performers. Notably, the event recorded no casualties, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to participant safety and well-being.
Looking ahead, Hajia Muhammad revealed that the foundation plans to align its future programs with the school calendar. “We’re planning a brief recess to regroup and strategize, but we’re excited about synchronizing our upcoming activities with the academic calendar, pending management approval.”
