Saxophone Hub & Vital Edge recently hosted two distinguished professors from Berklee College of Music, Godwin Louis and Jhony Keys, at the Grandeur Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, in a bid to further promote jazz culture.
The event, hosted by Ambassador Afolabi Oke (Ambassador of the African Union 6th Region to Nigeria, ECOWAS), emphasized the commitment to nurturing musical talents, fostering global collaborations, and transforming the African music landscape.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Oke described it as a defining moment for African music, as the world increasingly recognizes the richness of African rhythm, sound, and storytelling. He highlighted how partnerships like this open doors for exposure and international opportunities.
For Grammy-nominated saxophonist, educator, and composer Godwin Louis, jazz music is poised for global prominence with the right push. He lauded the talent emerging from Saxophone Hub, saying, “I am amazed by the growth of the kids here and their deep understanding of music. The global stage awaits these budding gems.”
Reiterating the vision of Saxophone Hub, its Managing Director/CEO, Jerry Omole, stated that the hub was established to raise generations of musicians who will not only master their craft but also carry the African sound and spirit to global heights. He noted, “Music has no retirement; it enhances whatever dream you have.”
Notably, Saxophone Hub has a long-standing collaboration with Backcountry Jazz, led by Bennie Wallace, offering scholarship opportunities to young saxophonists. Additionally, Berklee College of Music is awarding scholarships to some of the most outstanding musicians, further solidifying opportunities for African talents on the global stage.
