Top figures from Nigeria’s entertainment industry gathered in Lagos on Wednesday to honour the memory of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo during a solemn Service of Songs held in his remembrance.
The event, which took place at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, attracted actors, musicians, filmmakers, and close associates who came to celebrate the life and legacy of the beloved entertainer.
Alex Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, following a prolonged battle with complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer. He reportedly died at Evercare Hospital in Lekki, Lagos State, leaving behind family, friends, colleagues, and millions of fans saddened by the loss.
Prior to the memorial event, the Ekubo family released an official statement announcing the funeral arrangements for the late actor.
According to the family, the Service of Songs was scheduled for June 10, 2026, at The Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The statement described Alex as a devoted husband, son, brother, friend, and colleague whose life touched many people across different spheres.
Further details released by the family indicate that a wake-keep will be held on June 17, 2026, at the family residence located at 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
His funeral service is scheduled for June 18, 2026, at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, Abia State, after which he will be laid to rest at the family compound in Ujari Village.
The family also disclosed that a reception will be held immediately after the interment at Mary Slessor School, where guests, friends, and well-wishers will gather to celebrate the actor’s life and contributions to the entertainment industry.
They appealed to members of the public, colleagues, and fans to continue to remember Alex Ekubo’s wife and the entire family in their prayers as they navigate this difficult period.
The emotional Service of Songs featured tributes, prayers, and moments of reflection, with attendees sharing memories of the actor’s remarkable career, generosity, and impact on Nollywood and the wider entertainment community.
