Spain emerged victorious in the Euro 2024 final, defeating England 2-1 with a late goal from substitute Mikel Oyarzabal. This victory secured Spain a record fourth European crown.
The decisive moment came in the 86th minute when Oyarzabal slid in to score the winning goal, capping off a break and ensuring Spain’s triumph. This goal also maintained Spain’s perfect record in the tournament, as they won all seven games they played.
After a cautious first half where Spain dominated possession and England managed the only shot on target, the Spaniards broke the deadlock just two minutes after the restart. Teenager Lamine Yamal found space on the right and delivered an assist for Nico Williams, who slotted the ball home. England, who had fallen behind for the fourth consecutive game in the tournament, equalized in the 73rd minute through substitute Cole Palmer.
However, Oyarzabal’s late goal denied England their first major international trophy in 58 years, sealing Spain’s place as European champions once again.
