BBC News Pidgin has insisted that it stands by the reason it gave for the arrest of controversial social media critic, VeryDarkMan, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Recall that on Monday, the platform quoted EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, as saying VDM was arrested after several petitions were filed against him, and he’ll be released as soon as he meets the bail conditions, before the case is taken to court.
However, the commission immediately refuted BBC News’ report by labelling it fake news across its social media platforms, and as expected, there has been a lot of blame game going on since then.
Reiterating its stance by sharing a screenshot of its article on Instagram alongside a telling caption, BBC News revealed that its report was the real fact of the matter, and they stand by their factual journalism.
According to the platform, it remains committed to independent reporting that is free from all kinds of partiality, and it will never succumb to fear or favour as it keeps Nigerians up to date with the happenings around them.
BBC Pidgin News insisted that the stories they share are well guided by public interest, and the platform has never failed to adhere to the utmost editorial standards.
