The Agbayewa College Old Students Association (ACOSA) is gearing up for Game Season 3, the third edition of its annual alumni football tournament, and this time, the 1996 graduating set, the celebrated 96 Set, has stepped forward as host for this year’s games scheduled for March 28, 2026 at the school field. The announcement has lit up alumni networks, drawing excitement from former students who passed through the school across its four identities: Lagos Secondary Commercial Academy (LASCA), Ilupeju College (ILUCOL/ICI), Deep Learning International College (DLI), and the current Agbayewa Memorial College (AMC).
Widely regarded within ACOSA as one of the most cohesive alumni groups, the 96 Set has taken on full organisational, logistical, and financial responsibility for the event, and by all accounts, they have embraced it with pride. Members have spent months mobilising colleagues at home and in the diaspora, handling everything from venue arrangements and team registration to the social programme surrounding the matches. Their hosting of Game Season 3 is being described by insiders as a long-awaited moment, a generation that came of age under the Ilupeju College banner formally declaring its readiness to give back.
Event Coordinator Tayo Faleye has been the driving force behind the tournament’s planning. He is clear-eyed about what the event represents.
“Game Season 3 is a celebration of the ACOSA spirit where alumni from different generations come together through football to reconnect, build lasting friendships, and proudly uphold the legacy of our alma mater,” he said.
Faleye urged every alumnus, regardless of era, to attend. “We want every alumnus who shows up, whether they graduated decades ago or just recently, to feel seen, celebrated, and connected. That is the true purpose of this tournament.” On the hosts, he was equally effusive: “When you give a set the opportunity to serve, you see their true character. The 96 Set have risen magnificently to this occasion.”
Game Season 3 builds on the success of its two predecessors, both praised for the warmth and camaraderie they produced. This edition is expected to surpass them in scale and turnout, with sets from the LASCA era through to the current AMC generation set to be represented, a rare convergence of every chapter of the school’s history on a single pitch.
That history is a rich one. Founded in 1960 by Chief R. A. Agbayewa at Shiro Street, Fadeyi, Lagos, the school relocated in 1961 to its permanent home at 5 Olusoji Idowu Street, Obanikoro, Ilupeju, where it stands today. It became a state school under Governor Lateef Jakande in 1982, was returned to the Agbayewa family under Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2001, and took its current name, Agbayewa Memorial College, in 2011.
ACOSA itself was born in 2016, founded by Mr. Adesola David Afolami (86 Set) and Chief Bolade Ogunyinka (84 Set), who served as National Coordinators until 2023. Their mission was to unite all graduates, across every name and every era, under one identity. The Game Season tournament has since become the association’s most visible expression of that mission.
The 96 Set has answered. Now ACOSA is calling on every other set to respond, with their presence, their passion, and their pride. Further details on fixtures, dates, and venue will be announced through official ACOSA channels.
