The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) has said that improving exploration activities in Nigeria’s mature basins would guarantee increased investment in the oil sector. He recently revealed that stepping up exploration would also strengthen the country’s energy security.
Speaking to the media in Lagos, ahead of its 43rd Annual International Conference and Exhibition, NAPE President, Johnbosco Uche, disclosed that the move is key to revitalizing Nigeria’s petroleum exploration and production strategies.
Themed “Revitalizing the Nigerian Petroleum Exploration and Production Strategies for Energy Security and Sustainable Development,” Johnbosco stated that the 2025 conference will concentrate on ensuring energy availability, stability and affordability, while positioning the nation’s oil and gas sector to thrive amid the global energy transition.
He shared that energy security must be Nigeria’s priority for the nation to grow at a sustainable rate.
“As the global energy transition accelerates, Nigeria faces a dual responsibility: to sustain petroleum exploration and production while also preparing for a diversified, lowcarbon energy future. We cannot achieve this without deliberate policy alignment, increased investment, and renewed exploration drive.
At NAPE, we believe that energy security must remain a national priority. Nigeria cannot industrialize or grow sustainably without reliable and affordable energy,” he said.
NAPE further noted that reviewing exploration policies would help attract new investors to the upstream sector, while enhancing discoveries and sustaining production growth.
He concluded by saying that Nigeria can only achieve its 2030 targets of producing 3 million barrels of oil per day with the right strategies.
“Our actions today must secure the energy of tomorrow.
NAPE remains committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure that Nigeria’s petroleum industry continues to be a catalyst for development and sustainability,” he added.
