Dangote Refinery has reacted to new allegations by European petroleum products buyers and importers. Recall that the company’s diesel was recently accused of failing to meet winter specifications.
In a report published by Argus Media, suggestions were made that European buyers and importers shunned Dangote Diesel because it has sulfur levels above tolerance.
“Dangote can’t supply winter diesel, at present, to the colder regions [of Europe],” the media stated, quoting a Nigerian source.
The report immediately sparked major concerns in the global energy sector, and Nigerians have been reacting.
Also reacting to the development, the spokesperson of Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, confirmed that the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery does not produce winter diesel.
“Winter Diesel is not in our portfolio. We don’t need winter spec. We are a tropical country,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a press statement in 2024, Dangote Group, quoting Devakumar Edwin, the Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries, had disclosed that Dangote Refinery exported 90 per cent of its jet fuel and diesel to Europe.
