Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has warned his players not to get carried away by being called heavy favourites to book their place in the UEFA Europa final.
MUFC are currently preparing for the 2nd leg vs Athletic Club at Old Trafford after beating the Spanish side 3-0 in Bilbao last week.
Speaking during his press conference ahead of the game, Amorim revealed that his boys cannot afford to take the match for granted, especially after the several miserable results the team has endured at home this season.
The Portuguese manager revealed that it does not even matter if Athletic Club will be without the Williams brothers tonight, because one goal from any other Bilbao player can change everything.
“If you look at our season, anything is possible.
We have to understand one goal can change anything. The momentum of the game, one sending off, you saw it a week ago. We are fighting to win the game. We are thinking about winning the game,” he said.
According to him, some MUFC players have been guilty of losing their heads a bit during games, therefore, total concentration will be needed to see the game through and control things from the beginning to the end.
Amorim maintained that the quarterfinal second leg comeback against Lyon is still very fresh in his mind, so his boys must do everything possible to avoid a repeat of such at Old Trafford.
“Sometimes during the game we are one team, something happens and we lose our mind a little bit.
If you look at our team we cannot say today what is going to happen.
Some teams, the story is going to be like this and control the narrative. We cannot do that. I feel we need to score to go to the next round. We will have to suffer a bit to go to the final,” Amorim said.
Ruben confirmed that Matthijs de Ligt is unavailable for the game due to a knee injury, but it is nothing serious and he should be back soon.
“It is not a big issue and that is the good thing.
He cannot play tomorrow or Sunday [against West Ham] but then we will check day by day,” he added.
